Region 2008: Law, Policy and the Future of the Twin Cities

Dr. Benjamin J. Kanninen
Dr. Benjamin J. Kanninen is the Senior Director of School Success for the Community Action Council. CAC’s Partners for Success services, in more than 40 schools and seven school districts in Dakota and Scott counties, help students and families overcome problems that prevent a successful school experience, and descrease teacher time spen on non-academic issues so they can focus on teaching. Prior working with CAC, Dr. Kanninen served as the Superintendent of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District, where he was name the Minnesota State Superintendent of the Year for 2005 by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA).

Ben’s professional career has also included positions as Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of the School District of Superior, and Principal of Superior Senior High School. While in Wisconsin, Dr. Kanninen was cited by the Wisconsin Assembly for “Unwavering commitment to children and outstanding contributions to the quality of education in the Superior school system and extends the heartfelt appreciation of the citizens of the City of Superior, Douglas County, and the State of Wisconsin. Thank you for a job well done.”

Dr. Kanninen holds an A.B. in English from Princeton University, an M.A. from St. Thomas University, a specialist certificate in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and and Ed.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota.
