A recent Minnpost.com article, "North Minneapolis schools face crisis of confidence" discusses the difficult education decisions being faced by families in North Minneapolis.
In the article, IRP Executive Director Myron Orfield responded to the increasing segregation of North Minneapolis schools. "In 1992, nine Twin Cities schools were deemed segregated. By 2002, the number had risen to 102, and there are many more now." Not only are schools more segregated, in North Minneapolis, there has also been an accelerated increase in the concentration of children of color from low-income homes. The effect: "Racially and socially isolated schools destroy children's lives."

YorkCounts will host two community forums with leading experts on regional cooperation. The first forum, on Jan. 10, will be led by David Rusk. He published an influential report that helped spawn YorkCounts, a broad coalition that aims to improve the quality of life in York County. The second forum, on Jan. 24, will be led by Myron Orfield, executive director of the Institute on Race and Poverty at the University of Minnesota Law School.
